A stunning fusion of expert interior and exterior design.

From the geometric façade with its contrasting colours and finishes to the dramatic interior design, this is a home that demands your attention.

Inspired by principles of industrial and brutalist design, this home utilises a combination of natural materials, bold colours and contrasting textures to create a one-of-a-kind space.

The visual impact upon entering the home is immediate. A lightly sawn Oregon plank texture formed concrete feature wall captures the eye, a theme which leads from the entry foyer through to the rear of the home. Large form marble tiles have been predominately used throughout the ground floor to add brightness to the space. Marble slabs have been utilised to create the numerous stairs which connect the varying levels throughout the ground floor. The sheer size and weight of these marble slabs provided a logistical challenge, while the level of detail required to achieve the back lit LED lighting design required expert installation.

A large custom Skyroof is located in the centre of the home between the kitchen and living space to provide natural light for the occupants and abundant plant life, which softens the industrial textures. Charcoal toned ceilings throughout the space add to the dramatic feel and grandeur.

The centrepiece of the living area is a custom lowline fireplace. An intelligently designed recess makes space for decorative firewood, adding further texture to the space accentuating the rough sawn concrete finish. The dining room sits adjacent to the living area which is framed by a raised courtyard, welcoming northern light and the outdoors into the space.

The kitchen boasts a dropped ceiling with feature spotted gum battens, which provides a clever separation of the space from the living area. Once again, dark, dramatic tones have been paired with a touch of timber veneer for the cabinetry to the kitchen, while a Dekton benchtop provides texture with its organic veining. The splashback window features a planter box for herbs, adding a pop of colour to the space. A custom butler’s pantry ensures that this kitchen is a chef’s dream.

The ground floor powder room is a hidden gem, again adding further colour and texture. The free-standing Phoenix Basin provides a statement piece, while the round mirror with warm white LED strip light highlights the texture of the diamond white stone wall cladding, juxtaposed with the spotted gum ceiling cladding.

Native spotted gum has again been utilised for the treads of the staircase in the home. These treads cantilever from the formed concrete wall through recessed steel beams. Stainless steel wire has been utilised as a balustrade, enhancing the floating effect of the cantilevered treads. Soft LED lighting to the handrail highlights the texture of the concrete wall. The detailing of this staircase is immense, with extremely low tolerance for error in its implementation.

Windows throughout the home are double glazed, while retractable Centor screens have been utilised for bifold and sliding doors to the al-fresco areas. A Crystal Fire Burner is the centrepiece of the firepit which is framed by Decowood screen in natural chestnut to provide privacy to the space. Repetition of the Natural chestnut finish to the front façade, pool area and firepit creates a consistent theme in the exterior finishes of the home.

The design of the pool is once again unique and dramatic. Iridescent deep green glass mosaic tiles allow the shimmering light to dance in different tones throughout the day. The space is partially covered by a cantilevered roof, while the infinity edge accentuates the cascade to the yard below.

Of course, a home of this calibre makes use of the requisite home technology, including multi-room sound systems, automated window coverings and security that can all be operated by a palm device or mobile phone. The impact of the home on the environment has also been considered with photo voltaic electricity generation and water harvesting utilised in combination with efficient solar passive design.

The architectural vision of Douglas Design has come to life in this home. A stunning fusion of expert interior and exterior design, along with immense detailing and precision execution has resulted in a home that demands your attention.
