Gremmo Homes were winners of the 2013 HIA Australian Outdoor Project. The resort-style pool and outdoor area were applauded by the judges for being clearly visible from all primary living areas in the home and for the quality construction and material choice.
This is a distinctive and unique home, with expansive flowing spaces designed to harmonise in a modern living environment. The owners worked closely with the architect and landscape architect to create an integrated design featuring a stunning swimming pool and outdoor entertaining area, around which the house is centred.
The kitchen and open living zone is a study in modern conceptualisation. The white surfaces of the walls and stone bench tops are offset by the customised metal bulkhead and rustic recycled flooring.
The original house situated on the property was carefully demolished and timber cladding, fame work and roof timbers were salvaged and reused on the new build.
The glazing throughout the home has either “hush” inter-laying or thermal comfort qualities depending on the arrangement and location. Careful consideration was taken to create a consistent appearance to all glazing.
The 9.9KW photovoltaic system has been installed to assist in energy use.
There is a 20,000L underground water tank which reticulates to external taps, toilets, washing machine and irrigation system. The collected water is also used for the upkeep of the farm animals. The landscape architect has mindfully specified drought tolerant plants throughout the entire property, further reducing the need to water.
Internally, a combination of LED and fluro downlights have been installed. A comprehensive CBUS system helps to control and manage power usage. This unique technology means the owners are able to control the home internally and remotely through the use of iPad / iPhone.
The timber flooring has been sourced and recycled from a bridge in country NSW, and finished with Synteko natural oil which maintains the unique reused appearance. A significant advantage of this product over is the benefit of zero VOC emissions coupled with 100% solid content, making it exceptionally durable and extremely environmentally friendly. Refer to attached specifications.
The pool pump and equipment was carefully selected to conserve energy. Refer to attached specifications.
The home is site-responsive, and has been designed with careful consideration to the natural fall of the land, eliminating the need for excessive fill removal.
This project was the winner of the 2011 Hills Building & Design Awards environmental management, as judged by Max Mosher.
